- Solvable Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is both less soluble and less volatile than acetone as it does not evaporate, nor dry, as quickly. It is a stronger cleaning agent and is very effective at dissolving or removing paint, older coating layers, residual glue, ink, dirt & grease from many surfaces. MEK is regularly used for thinning speciality coatings; fiberglass, acrylics, lacquers & epoxy resins.
