The day is perfect. And so is Phil's car—elegant curves, gleaming chrome, dark ruby red paint, and a cream convertible top. You could admire the Mercury all day. Phil stops at the side of the road and airs out the vehicle, the sound of the air-ride suspension purge hints that there is more to this classic than its looks. Because of how few of these cars exist in today's era of volume-based manufacturing, Phil kept his restoration as original as possible, except for a few tasteful modern additions.

The first steps were to pull the body off the box and reinforce and powder the frame to ensure the car lasts another century. Step two was installing Scott's Hotrods front suspension and air suspension to all four corners. Bernie and Jason Hafner joined in on the restoration process, their attention to detail and craftsmanship evident on every square inch of the Mercury's interior and exterior.

He makes his way to the front of the car, and with his hands on both sides of the V-shaped hood, he lifts it to reveal a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro LT1, backed by a 700R4 transmission. This build keeps giving. Harry Periche, his mentor, would be proud.

With all the comfort and power his Mercury offers, Phil's relaxed nature and ear-to-ear smile are understandable. He has created something beautiful, powerful, and comfortable by even today's standards. Best of all, he will experience the joy of driving it one more time today on his way home.
