A HEMI ‘Cuda on a Mission

2025 Mar 31st

Les is on a deadline. He pushes the 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda, knowing the waiting crew would hear the show car’s growing low-pitched rumble long before they caught sight of the distinctive shaker and grill.

The muscle car and driver are making good time, closing the gap with a few minutes on the clock before the photo shoot begins. Les is not worried—he spared no expense on this build.

Les has been hooked on Mopar muscle since he first saw a 1970 four-speed ‘Cuda street racing. The appeal is understandable. The ‘Cuda came with impressive engine options, like a 426 HEMI V8, making it a desirable vehicle then and now. Its power, performance, and aggressive wide-body design were irresistible to a young Les.

That speeding ‘Cuda was in his mind when he stumbled across a diamond in the rough, a retired drag car, in Penticton, British Columbia. At the time, Les was facing some difficulties in his life. He didn’t know it then, but the ‘Cuda’s transformation would be the catalyst for his own.

The work began with the skilled help of B&N Hotrod, Richmond Engines, and Sharp Touch Restorations. A 528 HEMI equipped with Edelbrock aluminium heads and a Ray Barton intake manifold found a welcoming home in the muscle car’s engine bay. Other upgrades include a TKX5 transmission, McLeod twin disc clutch, and Dutchman Fab 9-inch rear end. The 528 has everything needed to pump out an impressive 750hp and 700lb-feet of torque.

This ‘Cuda can launch, and stop traffic. It attracts crowds at automotive events. Les’ vision was to create a vehicle that could turn heads, make some serious power, and maintain its drivability. Everything came together for Les at the right time.

He pulls into the site on schedule. The crew takes the opportunity for a close look at the car and everything Les has achieved through careful planning and dedication. The car and the man behind the wheel have arrived and are exactly where they are supposed to be.

With the ‘Cuda perfected and his life in order, Les’ next goal is building a 1968 Dodge Charger. Mopar intersects his life, joining the past, present and future.

Like Les and his 'Cuda, the Lordco Auto Parts annual tradeshow has transformed. What started as a small event is now a must-attend gathering for the automotive industry, attracting hundreds of vendor booths and thousands of attendees. Business owners and auto industry professionals come to discover new products, watch product demonstrations, and stock up on essential items available at some of the best prices of the year. Savvy shoppers take advantage of Red Sheet Specials—exclusive offers available only at the event occurring at the Pacific Coliseum and PNE Agrodome.

For auto enthusiasts, the static car displays, featuring everything from local drift cars to custom builds like Les', are among the show's
many highlights that keep them coming back year after year.
