Optimal long-term performance of a variable valve timing (VVT) system requires a reliable and rugged cam phaser, also known as a timing sprocket. The rotor and vane plate on the original equipment phasers on certain vehicles can fail prematurely from excessive internal wear, resulting in pressure loss and performance issues, particularly in high-mileage engines. This Dorman OE FIX cam phaser features significant upgrades to the original equipment design to provide longer service life and better performance than the OEM replacement. The upgraded design reduces friction with smoother movement—while eliminating premature wear by incorporating a patented, improved rotor and stronger alloy locking plate with a five-rivet center instead of the original three-rivet pattern. The additional rivets provide a stronger attachment of the signal plate to prevent shearing/failures during operation or installation.
